3 Sikh Ministers in New Indian Government

A proud moment for Sikh community came today when two more Sikhs took oath of office and became part of Indian Central Government under the leadership of Dr Manmohan Singh, prime minister of India. With a Sikh leading the administration team of world’s largest democracy, the Sikh community already takes pride in Dr Manmohan Singh, who became Prime Minister for second consecutive time.

Today Dr Manohar Singh Gill, A Rajya Sabha member from Punjab took oath as Cabinet Minister and Preneet Kaur who has been recently elected Member of Parliament for third consecutive time from Patiala took oath of office as Minister of State. we take a look at brief profile of all of them.

About the Leaders:

Dr Manmohan Singh : India’s fourteenth Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh is rightly acclaimed as a thinker and a scholar. He is well regarded for his diligence and his academic approach to work, as well as his accessibility and his unassuming demeanour. In what was to become the turning point in the economic history of independent India, Dr. Singh spent five years between 1991 and 1996 as India’s Finance Minister. His role in ushering in a comprehensive policy of economic reforms is now recognized worldwide. In the popular view of those years in India, that period is inextricably associated with the persona of Dr. Singh. Among the many awards and honours conferred upon Dr. Singh in his public career, the most prominent has been India’s second highest civilian honour, the Padma Vibhushan (1987);. Singh is a recipient of honorary degrees from many universities including the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford.  In his political career, Dr. Singh has been a Member of India’s Upper House of Parliament (the Rajya Sabha) since 1991, where he was Leader of the Opposition between 1998 and 2004.Dr. Singh and his wife Mrs. Gursharan Kaur have three daughters.

Dr Manohar Singh Gill: Dr M.S.Gill born on 14th June, 1936 is serving for second consecutive term after handling charge of ministry of Sports in last government. He received prestigious Padma Vibhushan conferred by the President of India in February 2000. With prior experience in Public Services and serving the nation as an IAS officer till 1993, and now the powers as well to utilize it efficiently to take India on the rise.Dr Gill was The first member of the Indian Administrative Service to go to the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling and trained with Tenzing Norgay.

Preneet Kaur :With Debut in Indian Goverment, Preneet Kaur is experienced Lok Sabha Member making a hattrick this time after winning in 1999,2004 and now 2009 from Lok Sabha constituency Patiala. Preneet Kaur is wife of Punjab’s ex chief-minister Capt Amrinder Singh and is blessed with a son and a daughter. She has been actively involved in social work in the Red Cross and was awarded the certificate of Merit from the President of India’s for outstanding performance.
